Spiritual Formation

We see abiding in the Vine as the key to a fruitful Christian life. Abiding in Christ is not just a mystical idea but rather a lifestyle modeled for us by Jesus the Vine. Just like a trellis supports and creates space for spiritual growth, spiritual practices provide a structure for fruitfulness. Below is a list of Biblical practices that form the trellis which supports our abiding union with Christ. We desire through these practices to create a community rhythm that brings unity and conformity to the image of Christ.

Prayer

We practice prayer as a way of growing in intimacy with God and guarding against the seduction of the world.

Solitude

We practice solitude as a way of quieting body and mind so that we can tune out the busyness of our culture and meditate on the things of God.

Sabbath

We practice Sabbath as a way of enjoying God’s intended rest for us in a culture of exhaustion and hurry.

Fasting

We practice fasting as a way to realign ourselves with God’s will and battle against self-indulgence.

Generosity

We practice generosity because it is better to give than to receive in a world run by greed and consumerism.

Scripture

We practice reading and obeying scripture as our source of ultimate and final authority in a culture of relativism.

Community

We practice community with each other in a society that is digitally connected yet socially distant.

Service

We practice serving because our master came to serve. In a culture of self we choose self denial and putting the interest of others before our own.

Witness

We practice being a witness of Christ and his work by both preaching and embodying the gospel message.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
